Removing VMNIC from vSwitch

Hi All,

I have 4 vmnics attached to a vSwitch and I want to remove one of the vmnic so that I can use it for other vswitch.

when I go to vswitch properties>adapters and remove. it removes the vmnic but I lost connectivity to the network. I can login to ESX hosts but whole network goes down like users cannot access resources on the network. no connectivity between servers.

I think vSwitch updates itself and divert the traffic to other vmnics.....am I wrong?
