Dug through the article, I changed the RSS setting on the VM I was doing the throughput test on, and it was unclear what I need to do with the CPU, so just in case I changed it from 4 cores to 2. This made no difference, still awful speeds up and much faster down.
For clarification, this desktop has a newer i7 quadcore CPU with 32GB RAM of me, and I'm just running 2 VMs at the moment that are hardly putting a dent in the machine's performance.
Should I try a new NIC, if so, can someone recommend a PCIe card I should get?
