Thanks for your reply...
I'm trying to:
- add an include line to another file, or....
- add static leases
If you google the same issue, other people have had this work. Try adding a line like this, outside of the DO NOT MODIFY section:
include "/path/to/example.conf";
Not only will the network service not start, but any attempts to remove the VNET_1_DHCP_CFG_HASH and get it to regenerate result in a file that's wiped back to the completely commented out version. The only thing that will survive are comments. Essentially, the "DO NOT MODIFY SECTION" is useless, because the whole file is regenerated. People on the web have written scripts for VMware Workstation and Fusion, but they're all older versions, and the VMware components have changed (commands, etc.)
For a $249 product that's competing with VirtualBox and automation-friendly solutions, this is something that VMware should fix.
I've already switched to using dnsmasq for dhcpd/tftp/dns (essentially, a netboot arch) for my specific tool, but it would still be nice to give people the option of using VMware's built-in dhcpd. Maybe this would have more success on a network other than vmnet1, although previous versions of VMware on Linux purportedly allowed this.
Also, as a note - this particular testing laptop is on the same version as you, Raring/13.04. This is supposed to be a supported version for the TP.
