vCenter: all datastores are offline

Still running ancient VMware infrastructure (ESX 3.5/Virtual Center 2.5). All has been pretty smooth until today.

I was trying up upload an ISO to my NAS storage while connected with vCenter to my Virtual Center server. For the first time ever, that failed with a "failed to log in to NFS server" dialog.

Did a little research. Nothing was a perfect fit but one that was close suggested bouncing the "VMware Virtual Center Server" service on the Virtual Center box. That had been a silver bullet for me before, so I tried it.

But when the service came back up, not only did all my VMs show as offline (I have had that happen before) but all my datastores also are offline from vCenter!

Fortunately, the datastore are actually accessible. They are both vmkpingable and browsable from both host servers. But I haven't found anything that has helped me get them online in vCenter yet. And until I get the datastores online I'm certainly not going to get the VMs online in vCenter.

I am completely baffled at this stage. Anybody seen this? Got solutions?
