That was a great idea trying the USB 2 port.  It seems to work fine, but you are also right that I really want USB 3 for for my LaCie because I have 4 of them that I use.  I tried the other USB 3 port on my laptop and got the same "Driver error" message.  I next tried a USB 3 64GB Voyager flash drive and got the same message. I finally tried my last drive a 1TB USB 3 Silicon Power only to also fail.  Maybe it has something to do with the ports.

Would I be able to move the win 8 vm to my desktop without reactivating it there just to test out it's USB 3 ports then move it right back to the laptop and not have to reactivate it again there?  I really want to use my LaCie's since I have v4 of them and it's a real waste using only USB 2.

Thanks
